Brussels names its airport
23 October 2006
Brussels Airport has finally been given an official name after its operator decided it deserved a strong brand.
Having previously been known as Zaventem, Brussels International Airport or l aeroport national, the hub now has an official name and all 20,000 staff are said to be pleased that a decision has been reached.
Brussels Airport will be branded as European, Efficient and Welcoming and these sentiments have consistently been witnessed first-hand by passengers.
The airport was voted best airport in Europe in 2005 and is consistently voted in the top five European airports.
'We want this airport to explicitly stand for the three key values we already cherish for many years,' said Wilfried van Assche, chief executive of Brussels Airport.
'First, as the airport of the capital of Europe, we want our airport to feel and look European. Second, as the airport that is recognised and awarded as an airport where things work and work well, we want our airport to stand for efficiency.
'And third, as the airport already getting the highest marks for the friendliness and courtesy of its staff, we want to continue to build on our multilingual service performance: Brussels Airport is welcoming,' he added.
