Canadians want clean up at Perry's Cove
24 October 2006

Local people in one of Canada's top tourist destinations are calling upon officials to help solve a rather unsightly problem.

Peggy's Cove in Nova Scotia is one of the country's most photographed places and is an area of undeniable beauty, reports the Chronicle Herald.

However, the area is home to a working a fishing community and the fishermen in the region are experiencing a sanitation problem.

A report recently published by Halifax Regional Municipality found that raw sewage has been percolating from an old system and is making its way into the sea.

Locals are asking tourism officials to help them deal with the problem which is having an effect on the beauty of the region.

'They're always so concerned about this place being a tourist destination and any infrastructure has been to upgrade it for the tourists,' said Murray Garrison, a resident and fisherman.

'Well, as a fourth-generation resident, I'm saying we are the backbone of this place. When are they finally going to do something for the residents of this village?' he added.

An investigation has been launched as surveyors are currently looking into ways of dealing with the problem as efficiently and economically as possible.
