Israelis use net for tourism
26 October 2006

Israelis are using the internet to search for tourism-related topics more than anything else, according to new research.

A study, carried out by Google Israel and data communications company TNS, has found that 80% of internet searches by Israelis centre on tourism, reports the Jerusalem Post.

Google found that the vast majority of searches are to do with tourism and it also discovered that more and more people from outside the country are searching for topics related to tourism in Israel.

The survey's findings will be used to help delegates as they meet to discuss the best ways in which to promote tourism in Israel via the internet.

Meanwhile, the Israeli Airports Authority (IAA) has reported a downturn in the number of passengers passing through Ben-Gurion Airport during September this year.

In total, 739,802 people passed through the hub, down 11% on the same period last year.

In addition to the international flight figures, the IAA has revealed that domestic flights fell by 20% during September 2006 compared to the same period in 2005.
