Dublin Airport expansion plans
26 October 2006
Dublin Airport has received planning permission to build a new multi-million euro terminal.
Fingal County Council has given airport officials authorisation to begin work on what will be the airport's second terminal, capable of dealing with 15m passengers.
Costing 395m (£265m), work on the new terminal is due to begin in 2007 with construction set to be complete in three years time.
Once complete, Dublin Airport will have a capacity of 35m and an extra 20 aircraft boarding points will be made available.
The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) began the process of gaining planning permission in July 2005 and the group is delighted to have finally been given the go-ahead.
'We will now study the decision in detail before making any further comment on the specifics of the planning permission that has been received,' said DAA chief executive Declan Collier.
'The planning process in Ireland is a democratic one and stakeholders are entitled to their views on infrastructure development.
'But we hope that if there are appeals to this decision, the appeal process moves ahead as swiftly as possible in the interests of all the users of Dublin Airport,' he added.
