Mirpur to get international airport
31 October 2006
The prime minister of Pakistan, Azad Jammu, has announced plans for an international airport in Mirpur.
It is hoped that by establishing an airport in the city, tourism will increase and expatriates will find it easier and more convenient to return home, reports the Pak Tribune.
Mr Jammu made the announcement during a meeting about the progress being made in developing Mirpur and said the airport would be funded with the help of the private sector.
During his speech, Mr Jammu also welcomed the financial aid that has been distributed by the government to those affected by an earthquake in the region.
The city is rebuilding following the disaster and Mr Jammu raised concerns over the speed at which the recovery is taking place.
However, he went on to praise the work of those involved in the redevelopment and said Mirpur would soon be self-reliant once more.
