Nepal's tourism drive
09 November 2006

Nepal's minister for culture, tourism and civil aviation is appealing to the media and UK Travel Trade to actively support the country's tourism drive.

Speaking at the 2006 World Travel Market (WTM) in London, Pradip Gyawali spoke of the important role tourism plays in Nepal's economy, reports Nepal News.

Mr Gyawali also emphasised the country's liberal aviation and foreign investment policies.

Alongside the minister were a number of famous faces, all of whom spoke to delegates about Nepal and the opportunity to promote the country as a fantastic tourist destination.

Alan Hinkes, who has climbed all 14 of the world's highest peaks, including the Eight Thousanders of Nepal, spoke highly of the country.

Michael Palin also informed the congregation of his pleasant experiences while filming a TV series in Nepal called The Himalayas.

The Nepalese delegation at the WTM used the occasion to launch a new advertising campaign aimed at promoting tourism in the country which runs under the slogan "Naturally Nepal, once is not enough".
