Vietnam's tourist info booths
14 November 2006
Tourists visiting Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, will now benefit from electronic information booths which have been set up in the city.
Forty of the information points have been put in place in a bid to help tourists find their way around the bustling city, reports news agency Thanh Nien.
The booths look just like local telephone boxes but each has at least one screen and displays information in both Vietnamese and English.
Tourists will be abele to access data on local hotels, restaurants and historical sites and if the booths prove successful, plans are in place for a wider-scale introduction.
Hanoi's Tourism Department has revealed that 200 of the information points will eventually be put in place as part of a $2m project (£1m).
Officials say 70 booths will be set up this year, while a further 130 will be established during 2007.
'It's great and will be even better with more foreign languages,' said Tran Thu Min, a resident of Hanoi.
