Versace fits into hotel industry
16 November 2006
Versace, the world-famous Italian fashion house, has agreed to build 15 luxury hotels across the globe.
The firm's chief executive officer, Giancarlo Di Risio, has revealed that a deal has been reached between Versace and property developer Sunland Group.
The fashion house will take the role of designer and furnisher for the seven-star resorts which are aimed at attracting the very rich and famous.
It is reported that the hotels will be modelled on Versace's Milan headquarters, and although the firm will not disclose how much money they intend to generate from the project, it has revealed that the resorts will be very exclusive.
'The hotels close the circle of super-luxury: clothing, yachts, private jets, and now resorts,' Mr Di Risio told Reuters.
The first of the luxury resorts is due to open in 2009 in Dubai and the proposals for the hotel include a swimming pool with live exotic fish and specially cooled sand.
Versace already owns one hotel on the Gold Coast in Australia.
