World food fair
23 November 2006
Food lovers will be flocking to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam next month to sample the culinary delights on offer at the first ever world food festival.
According to Vietnam's Thanh Nien Daily, from 1 December to 3 December chefs from around the globe will gather at the Van Thanh tourist park to showcase their countries' traditional cuisines.
A total of 14 countries will be represented in the festival, including India, Japan, France and of course Vietnam. Chefs will be on hand to show visitors how to prepare and cook their most popular dishes, while music and dancing will entertain the crowds.
Bringing a little extra fun to the festival, 220 cooks from the Saigon Professional Chefs' Club plan to make the world's biggest Vietnamese spring roll, measuring 100 metres in length and weighing 65 kilos, in just 30 minutes.
The new event will follow on from the success of the 2006 Vietnam food festival earlier this month, where visitors were given the chance to sample a variety of foods from the different regions of Vietnam.
