Danang pulls out the stops
24 November 2006

People taking a holiday in Danang, Vietnam, between 2007 and 2010 will be treated to a plethora of events designed to raise the city's profile.

Plans have been put in place to establish between four and six new cultural and historical tourist spots every year for the next three years, reports the Thanh News agency.

Visitors to the region may be lucky enough to witness the biennial Danang Culture and Tourism Festival, which is organised by city officials.

If it is not possible to attend this event, then there are plenty more on offer, as Danang pushes to become one of the most recognised cities in Asia.

Visitors will be able to watch the International Sailboat Racing Competition, or the Craft Villages Festival which introduces tourists to the country's ancient craft villages.

Vietnam's craft villages are famous the world over, with many having stood for over 500 years.

Danang is also well known for its natural beauty and local authorities want to attract more tourists by highlighting the region's beaches.

Hundreds of people are expected to descend onto one of the local hot spots for a Beach Beauty Pageant, which will be followed by the opening of a large late night street market.
