The Secret Garden
27 November 2006

Travellers planning to take a holiday in the UK are being asked to consider a trip to the county of Kent and in particular The Secret Garden.

The wonderful Victorian garden has been restored to its former glory and is a genuine working kitchen garden.

It produces fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, all of which are used by the new restaurant and food hall.

Tourism officials in Kent are hopeful that the garden, which used to be part of the Mersham Hatch Estate, will attract many visitors.

'Walled gardens are an important part of our history and the public can follow the progress of this fascinating project which makes a unique contribution to the unrivalled tourist experience that Kent has to offer with its amazing heritage, beautiful countryside, inviting coastline, remarkable attractions and convenient location it is close to both London and France,' said Sandra Matthews-Marsh, chief executive of Kent Tourism Alliance.

The restoration of The Secret Garden began in early January 2006 and all of the new features, including the restaurant and butchers, have been placed in the estate's original buildings.
