Maltese garden restoration
06 December 2006

An ancient Maltese garden and villa are to be transformed into a botanical garden in a move that the government hopes will attract more tourists.

The Argotti villa was constructed over 250 years ago, while the gardens date back to 1674.

People taking a holiday in Malta often visit the site, but now restoration works are taking place to restore the villa and gardens to their former glory.

Maltese minister Francis Zammit Dimech has visited the area and expressed his pleasure at how the work is coming along as well as highlighting its importance to the tourism sector, reports website di-ve.com.

In addition, Mr Dimech pointed out that the site is popular among local schools for educational trips.

The Malta Tourism Authority has spent Lm8,000 (£12,500) on restoring both the villa and the gardens.
