Norwegian royals light up London
11 December 2006

Members of the Norwegian royal family attended a special event in London which saw the Christmas lights switched on in Trafalgar Square.

Prince Haakon's family were present for the occasion which marks the friendship between Norway and the UK.

A tree has been transported from Norway to Trafalgar Square for the last 60 years in recognition of Britain's role in helping Norway during World War Two.

Prince Haakon's two-year-old daughter Ingrid was given the special honour of switching the lights on as her parents watched.

Hundreds of people turned out for the event which also included carol singing.

Ingrid's half brother, Marius, was also present, as was her mother Mette-Marit.
