Brad Pitt, Angelina Jollie spend Christmas in Costa Rica
27 December 2006
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie spent Christmas Day enjoying a holiday in Costa Rica.
Hollywood's golden couple were not in the country merely for a festive break however, as they spent 25 December handing presents out to refugee youngsters in the country.
Pitt and Jolie only revealed their visit to the media at the very last minute in a bid to avoid attention from the paparazzi. The couple were in the region fulfilling Jolie's role as a goodwill ambassador for the Unted Nations High Commission of Refugees.
The pair's three children were not with their parents in Costa Rica, but Jolie told reporters that she feels it is important to bring the plight of refugees to the world's attention.
'It is especially shocking that such a tragedy can go on, year after year, with the rest of the world paying so little attention to it,' she said of the 10,000 Colombian war refugees currently in Costa Rica, reports the UN agency.
'My Christmas message to Colombian refugees and to the millions of displaced people in Colombia is that the world has not totally forgotten them.'
During their visit, Pitt and Jolie handed out presents to families, were presented with a special Christmas cake and enjoyed a performance by a group of traditional Colombian dancers.
