Scorpion delays flight
09 January 2007
Hundreds of people were delayed when a scorpion bit a man on an American Airlines flight.
The victim crushed the tiny animal, but had to be examined by a nurse when the plane arrived at Pearson airport in Toronto.
After being checked over, it was decided that the man's life was not in any danger but a thorough search of the plane had to be carried out.
'As a precaution we did delay the outbound flight while we searched the aircraft to see if there were any more scorpions and none turned up,' said American Airlines spokesman John Hotard.
Mr Hotard went on to say that the affected passenger told 'agents that he and his brother had been camping in Costa Rica and thought possibly the scorpion had come aboard in his backpack'.
Animal control officers were called in to remove the scorpion, with the airline's spokesman claiming that this was the first time one of the animals had been found onboard.
