Brits planning exodus
17 January 2007

Over half of all Brits are already booking their summer holiday as the winter becomes just too depressing.

Research from Yorkshire Bank shows that as many as 54 per cent of Britons are taking advantage of the holiday January sales.

In addition to booking a summer break, many people have become so restless following the festive period that they are also booking short city breaks.

The research shows that 27 per cent of people are planning to visit Europe before the summer kicks in.

'With Brits working the longest hours in Europe, it's understandable to find they are treating themselves to more and more holidays in order to relax,' said Gary Lumby, head of retail at Yorkshire Bank.

Another trend highlighted by the research is a growing reluctance to purchase travel insurance for short breaks.

The survey found that just 32 per cent of those planning a weekend break in Europe intend to buy travel insurance.

'You can never plan when you'll be involved in an accident, especially when travelling abroad,' added Mr Lumby.

'That's why when going on holiday, even if it's just for a few days, you should always book good quality travel insurance.'
