St Lucia set for golfing status
18 January 2007

The island of St Lucia is aiming to become the Caribbean's number one golfing destination.

Plans are in place to introduce a number of new courses in the region, with authorities hopeful that this will help to attract more tourists.

St Lucia is already home to a championship level course at the St Lucia and Country Club and now four more courses are set to be introduced.

Those who golf in St Lucia do it Caribbean style, with industry figures keen to emphasise the benefits of playing a round on the idyllic island.

Beautiful scenery, wonderful sunshine, fantastic courses and a gentle Atlantic breeze are just some of the reasons so many people play golf in St Lucia, while the promise of a refreshing cocktail at the end of play is also an attractive proposition.

The new courses are being designed by four men who know a thing or two about golf. Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, Arnold Palmer and Christie O'Connor Jnr are all involved.

Once the new projects are completed, St Lucia will have five high-class golf courses and will begin advertising itself as a golfing destination.
