Top five romantic destinations
22 January 2007
A new list of romantic getaways has been compiled in time for Valentine's Day.
The Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO) has put together its top five romantic destinations.
Among them are a mixture of tropical holidays and city breaks, with each destination being thoroughly examined.
Top spot was taken by Dubai, with the country being recognised for its year-round good weather and fantastic array of luxury hotels.
The country also scores highly due to the large amounts of tax-free shopping that holidaymakers can indulge in.
Second spot went to Reims in France, with the AITO citing the fact that Champagne is made in the region as a key factor to its high placing.
Verona in Italy was ranked third. The destination is famous for being the setting for one of the most romantic stories of all time - Romeo and Juliet.
Prague also scored well, being ranked fourth. The capital of the Czech Republic was recognised for its fantastic architecture, wonderful restaurants and a good price without compromise.
Finally, the Seychelles was ranked as the fifth most romantic destination, with the vast array of intimate and secluded beaches helping to establish it as a couple's paradise.
