Chinese taxi drivers given spit sacks

Travellers taking a taxi ride during a trip to Shanghai in China will be pleased to hear of a new innovation.
Drivers in the country's financial capital have been provided with spit sacks in a bid to crack down on the popular habit of spitting in the street.
The sacks will be attached to the interior of the cabs, providing a place to spit for both the driver and the passengers.
'The "no spitting" regulation came after Shanghai decided to make people give up the ugly and unhygienic habit and present a healthy city for the 2010 World Expo,' reported the China Daily.
Around 45,000 of the sacks will be distributed and it is part of a large-scale crackdown on the act of publicly spitting.
Recently, spittoons were attached to public bins, however they did not prove popular, with most people choosing to use them as ashtrays.
Authorities in Shanghai are concerned about international reaction to the city during the 2008 Olympic Games.
