Lincolnshire lifts photo ban
25 January 2007

People enjoying a holiday in the UK will now be able to take photographs of heritage sites in Lincolnshire.

It follows the lifting of a ban on photography, which the county council described as 'draconian', reports the Lincolnshire Echo.

Tourists visiting the heritage sites had previously been told that photographs could not be taken due to concerns over copyright laws.

Authorities were concerned that legal action may be taken against them if a photograph was deemed to be reproduction of a copyrighted work.

This decision has now been overturned, meaning visitors can capture the sites on film

'The ban was introduced as a reaction to a museum body being sued by a copyright owner,' said Jonathan Platt, the county council's head of cultural strategy and inclusion.

'But when we re-assessed it, we decided the risks were small and that the ban was inconvenient to the public.

'I've worked in museums for more than 20 years and have never had anything come back regarding copyright,' he added.

Lincolnshire is home to a number of wonderful attractions, including Belvoir Castle, Heckington Windmill and Lincoln Cathedral.
