James Blunt's chairlift honour
25 January 2007

Singer James Blunt has been handed a huge honour, after a chairlift was named after him.

The star will forever be associated with ski holidays in Switzerland at the Verbier resort and is now officially the godfather of the lift.

Blunt rose to fame with hits such as You're Beautiful and is said to be planning on moving to Verbier permanently.

It is reported that the move is partly for tax reasons, with Blunt preferring to avoid having to give away too much of his £5m fortune.

The singer is not the only star to have a chairlift named after him at the Verbier resort, with another singer also holding that honour.

'He is the godfather of the new lift. It is an honour,' said Verbier's director of tourism Patrick Messeiller.

'Diana Ross, a popular celebrity in Verbier, has been godmother of a lift since 1998.'

Verbier is home to many outdoor activities aside from skiing, with suspension walking, mountain biking and rock climbing just a few of the options on offer.
