Ski holidays without the skiing
26 January 2007
A large number of people are choosing to take a skiing holiday, but failing to actually hit the slopes.
That is according to moneysupermarket.com, which says a massive 18% of people are happy to visit a ski resort without strapping on the skis.
Instead, they prefer to simply enjoy the beautiful scenery and some of the other fantastic activities which are now available at most resorts.
According to the study, men tend to want to spend more time on the snow than women, with the average male spending half an hour longer on the white stuff.
'The apres ski spirit makes up an important part of most ski trips, but it's surprising how many holidaymakers now go for the glühwein and good times alone and never even set foot on the slopes,' said Peter Gerard from moneysupermarket.com.
Alarmingly, the research also found that large numbers of travellers are failing to take out adequate insurance cover ahead of a trip to the slopes.
'While some people may not realise they need extra cover for winter sports, it seems that many are prepared to take a huge financial risk, both to themselves and potentially to other skiers,' said Mr Gerard.
In addition to urging people to take out insurance, Mr Gerard also warns travellers to behave sensibly while away or risk not receiving a payout.
'It is a little known fact that virtually every travel insurance policy on the market includes a clause that says if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time an incident occurred, you may not be able to make a claim as your policy may be rendered invalid,' he added.
