One giant leap for space travel
05 February 2007
Travellers who like to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quiet while on holiday will be glad to hear that personal space travel is reportedly getting closer to becoming a reality.
The budding industry is predicting good things for 2007, with a number of developments expected to bring the space travel dream a step closer.
New regulations from the US government are expected to have a positive impact, while spaceport developments and increased testing of the craft are also adding to the positive outlook.
Although the industry is confident that 2007 will bring good things, many figures are keeping their feet firmly on the ground.
'We're still in the developing capabilities phase,' said Bretton Alexander, president of the newly-formed Personal Spaceflight Federation.
The next few months should see new regulations introduced by the US Federal Aviation Authority, with the focus on the safety of those not involved in personal space travel and ensuring that those who are can make an informed decision about their own safety.
As yet an official date has not been set for the first commercial space flight, however some figures believe that it could be as soon as 2009.
