Theme park hotels
07 February 2007

Holidaymakers may soon be able to visit theme parks around the world and sleep nearby, with the announcement that the Tussauds Group is planning on opening a string of hotels.

The group owns some of the world's most popular theme parks and is now said to be looking into the feasibility of opening a hotel in each of them.

The news follows that of an agreement reached with Intercontinental Hotels Group to open a hotel at Tussauds' Chessington World of Adventures theme park.

Hotels are already in place at some of the group's other parks, with Alton Towers in Staffordshire home to two.

The Chessington hotel is to be a 150-room structure and is due to open in June in the planned Animal Land development.

Tussauds is excited by the prospect of opening the hotel, which it thinks will offer guests something different.

'I think we can package some fairly unique experiences, perhaps linked in with the zoo aspect,' said Jo White, Holiday Inn Chessington general manager.

The Tussauds Group also owns Thorpe Park in Surrey and Heide Park in Soltau, Germany.
