Friendly New York cabbie
08 February 2007

The friendly side of New York has been highlighted by a taxi driver in the city.

Osman Chowdhury had taken a passenger on an $11 trip, for which he received a measly 30-cent tip.

However, Mr Chowdhury showed his kind and honest side when he realised that his female passenger had left a bag in his trunk, reports the New York Daily News.

The driver opened the bag and found 31 diamond rings inside, with a combined value of thousands of pounds.

Mr Chowdhury was not about to pocket the loot however, as he set off on a mission to find the woman.

A few phone calls later and she was tracked down, offering the taxi driver a $100 reward for returning the jewels.

'I'm a hard worker. I enjoy my life. I'm satisfied,' said Mr Chowdhury. 'I'm not going to take someone else's money or property to make me rich. I don't want it that way.

'When I find something left in my cab, and I can return it to the owner, I feel very happy. I feel proud.'
