Australia's tourism awards
23 February 2007

People planning a trip to Australia may be interested to know that the National Museum of Australia in Canberra has been given a top tourism award.

The museum beat off stiff competition to take home the title of Major Tourist Attraction 2006.

Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo also took home a top honour, being named as the Tourism Retailer of the year, while the Sydney Royal Easter House took home the Major Festival and Special Events awards.

Hunter Valley's Bimbadgen Estate Wines was named tourism winery of the year, with Adelaide Shores Caravan Resort receiving the Tourist and Caravan prize.

'These awards demonstrate the quality and exceptional performance of tourism operators right across Australia,' Fran Bailey, Australia's federal tourism minister told the Australian Associated Press.

Ms Bailey went on to say that she was taken aback by the 'excellence and innovation' on display by all of those featured at the awards.
