Chateau is multimedia museum
26 February 2007

The spectacular Chateau of the Dukes of Brittany in Nantes has reopened following a three-year closure.

Renovation and restoration have been taking place at the site for 15 years but the Chateau was completely closed in 2004.

Since then much work has been done to transform the 13th century building into a permanent multimedia museum.

The focus of the museum will be the Chateau's, Nantes' and the Loire Estuary's glorious past, with guests invited to interact with many of the displays.

Around 800 artefacts will also be on display, including paintings by JMW Turner and the Edict of Nantes signed by Henri IV.

Each multimedia display is available in both French and English and visitors will be allowed to visit rooms which were previously off-limits.

Tourism officials say that some of the new rooms offer views of the city that have been seen by just a very select few.
