London airport looks to expand

There may soon be a new landing destination for people taking a holiday in England.
London Ashford airport (LLA), in Lydd, Kent, has been testing how well it can cope with comparatively large passenger jets.
A Boeing 737 was used in take off and landing tests at the airport as its owners seek to expand.
Officials at LLA say that they used a 737-300 because it is the noisiest plane in its marque and the airport's expansion plans have so far been dogged by complaints from protestors.
'We have deliberately chosen the 737 with the noisiest engines so that people really understand this is the worst possible case for Lydd,' Robin Gordon, spokesman for LLA, told the BBC.
LLA has already submitted two planning applications to the local council, with one being for two expansions to existing runways.
The second application is for the building of a new terminal building which will allow the airport to handle up to 500,000 passengers every year.
A decision is expected to be reached in May of this year.
