Norwich airport charges for redevelopment
12 March 2007
Travellers passing through Norwich International airport are to be charged an additional £3 for doing so.
It is part of the airport's plans to raise money for improvement work that needs to be carried out at the hub.
Airport officials want to raise £18m to improve the runway, check-in zones, shopping facilities and customer services.
The £3 charge will be called the airport development fee (ADF) and will come into effect from April 2nd.
Adults will be charged £3 while children will pay just £1 and authorities at the airport say that it would not be possible to carry out the work without the ADF.
Norwich International wants to see passenger numbers increase from 450,000 in 2004 to 800,000 by the end of this year.
'Those extra passengers require more space and better facilities and that inevitably means more aircraft will be using the airport,' revealed Norwich International managing director Richard Jenner.
'We need investment to keep pace with this growth.'
