Exeter International to go smoke-free
15 March 2007
Exeter International airport has announced that it is to become a smoke-free zone three months earlier than is required.
The UK government is set to introduce a ban on smoking in all public places from 1 July but Exeter says that it will impose the ban from 1 April.
At present, passengers can smoke in a designated area within the terminal building but that is set to change in just two weeks time.
'The airport recognises that a person, whether passenger, visitor or staff member, has the right to be protected from the harm of second hand smoke," commented Exeter International's John Spooner.
'Our ruling will ensure that they can relax, travel, shop and work in a healthier and smoke-free environment.'
The announcement was made on the UK's National No Smoking Day (14 March) and is in response to passenger and staff feedback.
