A lot of wedge for a sandwich
15 March 2007
New York is home to the world's most expensive pizza and the world's most expensive dessert but if holidaymakers want to get their hands on the world's most expensive sandwich then they need to head to Maidenhead in the UK.
The Cliveden House Hotel in the region has created a very expensive sandwich, with visitors asked to cough up £100 for the treat.
So what does one get in a £100 sandwich? It comes complete with Iberico ham, air cured for 30 months, poulet de Bresse, quail eggs, semi-dried Italian tomatoes, 24-hour fermented sour dough bread and white truffles.
A number of people are said to have already tried the 1,182-calorie sandwich and the hotel is extremely proud of its achievement.
'We are absolutely delighted with the response and have received some excellent feedback from guests who have tried it,' Tim Pettifer, Cliveden's general manager, told the Maidenhead Advertiser.
'It is an absolute must for serious gastronomes and contains some of the world's very finest ingredients.'
