25m have visited London Eye
19 March 2007

Popular UK tourist attraction the British Airways London Eye is celebrating after seeing 25m visitors use it.

The landmark has been in place since 2000 and was an instant success, with tourists and locals still flocking to take a ride on the huge Ferris wheel.

It has been calculated that an average of 1,000 people per hour get onto the London Eye, witnessing London from a unique vantage point.

The London Eye has received a number of design awards, with its 35 capsules being singled out for praise in particular.

It is the design of the capsules that allows for such stunning views of the UK's capital city and it is these views which have inspired a competition that is being held to mark the passing of the 25th million visitor.

Those who have been on the Eye are being invited to enter their photographs from inside one of the pods into a competition.

The best photograph will be put on permanent display at the London Eye ticket office, while all entries will be put together to form a large mosaic which will also be displayed at the ticket office.
