Keeping passengers informed while they wait
20 March 2007
Passengers using airports in the UK can now receive text message updates to keep them in the loop regarding their flight.
A new system which has been developed by Stream Thru is being implemented with the aim of giving passengers more control of how to manage their time on the day that they fly.
People are simply required to register online with the service and will then be provided with flight information on the day they are due to depart.
An SMS message will remind the passenger of their flight time, flight number, boarding time, departure gate and, especially useful, details of any delays.
The company behind Stream Thru, Mantic Point, claims that its research shows around one in four flights from the UK are delayed, causing problems for passengers who are usually not informed until the last minute.
'To help combat this, StreamThru is a free service that is the first in the country to offer travellers SMS flight updates to their mobiles on the day they travel, as well as updates on boarding times and departure gates when actually at the airport,' said Mike Atherton, managing director of Mantic Point.
Research by Mantic Point also found that the average passenger will spend around 46 days of their life waiting for a delayed flight.
