English places of interest on sat nav
20 March 2007
Travellers enjoying a holiday in England will soon be able to do away with the traditional map.
It is because the English Tourist Board, EnjoyEngland, is hoping to release a satellite navigation system which will tell drivers how to get to specific landmarks and attractions.
Sat nav system Tom Tom is said to be in talks with EnjoyEngland about the idea which it is hoped will be available by the end of the year.
It means that tourists will be able to more easily find their way to some of the country's historical and cultural sites such as Buckingham Palace, Stonehenge and Houses of Parliament.
The announcement was made during the British Travel Trade Fair in Birmingham where the Scottish Tourist Board, VisitScotland also announced ambitious plans for the future.
VisitScotland's director of strategy, Riddle Graham told the press that tourism brings in £4.2 billion to the country annually and should be expanded.
'We have very strong ambitions to grow tourism by 50% in the next ten years,' he said.
