27 March 2007
Virgin Atlantic is celebrating the first birthday of its flagship clubhouse at Heathrow.
The area inside Heathrow airport has seen a great deal in its first year since being redesigned and it has also won many awards.
Named as the best airline lounge at the British Travel Awards 2006, best leisure or entertainment venue at the FX Design Awards 2006 and best airline lounge for Skytrax 2006, the lounge also took home the Red Dot Award for Superior Design, best hospitality environment and best of show at the Design Week Awards 2007.
It was also named in the top 12 coolest places on earth by Arena magazine.
'The new clubhouse has been a real hit with our Upper Class passengers who now turn up much earlier for their flights so they can spend as much time as possible in there,' said Steve Ridgway from Virgin Atlantic.
'We have also seen a considerable number of new Upper Class passengers flying with us as more and more passengers hear about what it has to offer.'
Mr Ridgway added: 'We are thrilled with the many awards that the clubhouse has won in its first year.'
According to Virgin, the clubhouse has entertained 250,000 guests in its first year, as well as serving 125,000 glasses of champagne, cutting 15,000 people's hair and entertained 1,000 passengers with the Jacuzzi.
