A380 brings tour to an end
28 March 2007
The Airbus A380 has touched down for the final time on its route-proving tour which saw it travel to a number of different airports around the world.
Aviation fans turned out in force to see the aircraft wherever it went and the tour is being labelled a success by both Airbus and Lufthansa, reports website Breaking Travel News.
The airline company has been working alongside Airbus during the trip and it was in Germany that the tour, which began on 17 March, came to an end.
After travelling from Frankfurt to New York, Chicago, Hong Kong and Washington, the aeroplane finally came to rest in Munich.
Passengers had been allowed on the massive plane as it made its journey and the vast majority were impressed, while Lufthansa's crew were also pleased with the plane.
'We are delighted that that we have been able to work with Airbus as a partner for innovation and actively accompany and support the development and route-proving of this new aircraft type with our expertise and experience - as we did with earlier models,' commented Lufthansa's chief executive officer Wolfgang Mayrhuber.
The A380 is a double-decker aeroplane, with a wingspan of 79 metres. Lufthansa has ordered 15 of the craft which it hopes will be in operation by mid-2009.
