Nudists cause trees to be cut back
29 March 2007
A nudist beach in Wisconsin has had to cut back a number of trees to put a stop to amorous couples frolicking beneath them.
The Department of Natural Resources has received a number of complaints about lovers allegedly getting steamy beneath the willow trees Mazomanie nudist beach on the Wisconsin River.
For more than 50 years nudists have been heading down to the beach but officials have grown concerned that the area is gaining a reputation as being a sex spot.
'These willows just became a cruising area for people looking for sexual activity out there,' Steve Colden, property manager for the Lower Wisconsin State Riverway, told the Capital Times.
As well as preventing amorous couples from destroying the beach's appeal, cutting back the willows may also benefit turtles in the area.
A recent study found that soft-shell and hard-shell turtles that nest on the beach have seen their numbers plummet in recent years, with experts blaming this on the shadow caused by the trees.
