Concorde still number one
30 March 2007

Anglo-French aeroplane Concorde, which has been out of service since 2003, remains a hugely popular vehicle among aviation enthusiasts.

Website flightglobal.com asked visitors which airline they would like to see replace the current BAC-Aerospatiale Concorde model which is situated outside London's Heathrow airport.

The site, which is a roundabout at the entrance of the central airport area, has recently been bought by Emirates and the Concorde model is expected to be replaced by one of an Airbus A380.

However, online voters made their views clear and voted in droves to save the Concorde, with the supersonic jet receiving 71% of the vote.

An A380 with the Emirates' livery only received 11% of the vote, while a British Airways Boeing 747 received 12%.

'Concorde seems to have an unassailable place in the affections of the aviation community,' commented Kieran Daily from Flight Group.

'In 2007 I think it's time to move on from the Heathrow model, but the A380 has a lot of catching up to do in terms of popularity.'
