Scarecrows go hi-tech
30 March 2007

A new piece of technology has been launched which could make life a little easier for airline pilots and airport staff.

Scarecrow Bio-Acoustic Systems has released Ultima, which promises to keep nuisance birds away from airport runways.

The firm claims that its technology denies birds the comfort zone they need to cause a nuisance.

'With Ultima we wanted to solve an age-old problem with new-age technology,' revealed Tom Diamond from Scarecrow.

'The industry is well aware of the shortcomings of various dispersal techniques and bio-acoustics is cited as a reliable method.

'ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) regulations add the demand on Airfield staff of logging activity. We wanted to supply a solution that exceeds both demands,' he added.

The system works by emitting a noise through loud speakers which will work to disperse nuisance birds.
