Turkish officials hopeful about tourism

Turkey is poised to become the world's most popular tourist destination within a decade, an official from the country's culture and tourism ministry has said.
Relaying the findings of a World Tourism Organisation (WTO) survey, undersecretary Mustafa Isen stressed that regional development and job creation would flow from Turkey's raised global profile as a top spot for tourists.
Turkish government spokespeople have also suggested the increased revenue from tourism will improve Turkey's chances of EU membership by helping her meet conditionality markers on economic improvement.
By 2020, 'we would like to make Turkey one of the top five countries in terms of the number of tourists received', Mr Isen announced.
The tourist authorities' strategy for attracting roving souls will centre on converting Turkey's rich cultural and historic heritage into marketable attractions, improving publicity and the dissemination of information abroad.
A recent survey from the Association of British Travel Agents predicted that Turkey would be the second most popular destination for British holidaymakers in search of sun this Easter bank holiday weekend.
