Norwegian fjords a flight away with SAS
12 April 2007
Northern Norway will soon open up to British travellers as Alesund prepares to receive direct incoming flights from London Gatwick for the first time.
Running twice a week, the new flight route will connect the remote town, nestled amidst the fjords of northern Norway, with the hum of the UK's capital city.
Although flights will be infrequent, the demands of both business and holiday travellers have been taken into account in the scheduling of departure flights, targeted for Friday and Monday evenings.
Launching on June 1st, the flights will be up and running in time for the early summer, when the long, light 'white nights' spread across the northernmost parts of Europe.
From the city of Alesund, access out to the fjords, replete with fishing opportunities, is easy.
And since most development took place at the zenith of the art nouveau style in building, Alesund's elegance and delicacy in architecture, characterised by slender turrets and pastel porticos, is unparalleled.
