Bangkok film festival
20 April 2007

Movie enthusiasts are gearing up for the fifth Bangkok International Film Festival which is due to take place this year.

People from around the world will travel to Thailand's capital for the event which was previously scheduled to take place in January.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand has revealed that there were not enough available screens for the festival to take place earlier but now additional screens have been secured and it will go ahead in July.

In order to make the festival a success, it has been cut down in size, with officials saying that this could add to the occasion.

'We are all set to go now,' revealed Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, chief officer of the festival.

He added that it would be a 'streamlined festival, where we've trimmed off the excesses. The focus will be on quality films which is really the heart of any film festival.'

'This year, our main focus will be to provide the movie-loving audiences of Bangkok, with the films they've been waiting to see.'

The majority of films on display will be Asian though some Western movies have also made it onto the schedule.

The fifth Bangkok International Film Festival begins on 19 July and ends on 29 July.
