40-mile art exhibition on River Loire
23 April 2007
Art lovers who are planning a trip to France this year are in for a treat as a special exhibition is being held.
The River Loire will play host to a fantastic display of art with over 40 installations being put on show.
Work from world-famous artists such as Anish Kapoor, Daniel Buren and Atelier Van Lieshout will be seen by millions of people on a stretch of river which reaches between Nantes and St Nazaire.
The 40-mile exhibition has been named the Loire Estuary Project 2007 and is said to be a symbolic link between the two major cities.
Organisers say that the works of art will be present throughout Nantes, St Nazaire and the space in between.
Prominent features will be an 80-foot duck, a floating house and a series of dramatic fountains.
Visitors are welcome to view the art in any way they please and completely free of charge, although officials say that the best way to see the entire exhibition is by boat.
A special three-hour boat service will be in operation for the duration of the exhibition.
The Loire Estuary Project 2007 will be available to see from 1 June until 1 September.
