Constantine exhibition in Germany
02 May 2007

Tourists who enjoy a bit of history and like to learn as well as relax on holiday may want to head to Germany's oldest city this year.

Trier is playing host to a major exhibition that will look at the life and times of Constantine the Great.

Constantine was the first Christian Roman Emperor and his life is of such interest to historians that Trier is going to be practically overrun by the exhibition.

The city's Rhine State Museum, the Bishopric Cathedral and Diocese Museum and the Simeonstift City Museum will all be focussing on Constantine for six months.

The emperor chose Trier as his official royal residence between 307 and 324 AD and the city is home to many wonderful Roman buildings.

In addition to the Roman influence, Trier was also home to Karl Marx, with the founder of Communism being born in the city.

The Constantine exhibition in Trier is due to begin on 2 June to 4 November.
