10 May 2007
A new multi-million-pound water park is to open in Bahrain this year.
Backers of the £25m project say that the park will open its doors for the first time in August and they are hopeful that it will be a hit with tourists.
The Lost Paradise of Dilmun Water Park is expected to attract in the region of 300,000 people each year and signals a new step in tourist attractions in the country.
'This is a completely new project for Bahrain, it is something very different which hasn't existed before,' Derek Walsh, the project's finance and administration manager told the Gulf Daily News.
'I think it is going to be a unique attraction and people are going to come, I hope, in droves.'
The water park is part of the Al Areen development which is being put in place in the Bahraini desert.
Experts are predicting that the Al Areen site will give tourism in Bahrain a huge boost.
