Korea holds its tongue for festival
14 May 2007

The people of South Korea are gearing up for one of the country's most popular events.

Authorities are expecting thousands of people to turn up for the Korea in Motion Festival, with tourists from around the world already booked to attend.

The event is special in that it lasts for two months and is aimed at bringing down the barrier of language by encouraging people to express themselves through non-verbal forms of communication.

The festival will see performances of dance, music and mime, with the content being as diverse as possible.

A breakdancing championship will take place, as will a graffiti festival, Taekwondo competitions and a host of musical performances.

Korea Tourism Organisation is behind the event and the group is keen to give it a taste of traditional Korea alongside more modern areas.

The Traditional Arts Stage will focus on the four major genres in Korean art, with performances of dance, instrumental music, Sori and Ta-ak.

Most of the performances being held as part of the festival will take place in the country's capital Seoul and the festivities are taking place between June and July of this year.
