Icelandair links Canada and Iceland
18 May 2007

A new service between Canada and Iceland has been announced by carrier Icelandair.

The airline is due to begin flights from Halifax, Nova Scotia today (18 May) and will become a regular three times per week service until September.

Icelandair says that the new link will offer travellers from Canada a fantastic and easy connection to other major destinations.

The four-hour flight from Halifax International will allow passengers to pass quickly on to other Icelandair destinations such as Great Britain, Scandinavia and Continental Europe.

'Icelandair looks forward to serving Halifax and is enthusiastic about the future opportunities in Canada,' commented Jon Karl Olafsson, chief executive officer of Icelandair Group and Icelandair.

'We are pleased with the vision the Canadian government has set forth in its Blue Sky Policy and firmly believe that the emphasis on increasing airline competition in Canada will be beneficial to travel and tourism.'

Icelandair is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and is celebrating by announcing a number of new routes.
