Owen Hargreaves fronts German campaign
21 May 2007
One of the world's leading footballers, Owen Hargreaves, is to become the face of German tourism.
The England and Bayern Munich midfielder was recently voted Player of the World Cup 2006 and has become a household name throughout Europe.
On the back of this success, as well as the fact that he will almost certainly be signing for Manchester United this summer, the 26-year-old is now fronting a poster campaign, encouraging British tourists to visit Germany.
The advertisements will feature a photograph of Hargreaves, with the midfielder claiming: 'I'm a big fan of Germany - except when we're playing against them.'
The campaign has been put together for the German National Tourist Office (GNTO), Air Berlin, Lufthansa, Deutsche Bank and the German Embassy, with officials delighted that they have Hargreaves on board.
'We're delighted to have teamed up with Owen speaking for Germany and have deliberately chosen to work with him on this image campaign,' said Udo Grebe, director of the GNTO in London.
'He's not only one of the currently most well-known English persons of public interest in Germany but as a young man with an international background living in Munich he also adds to the contemporary image of Germany and appeals to a broad audience.'
Another famous English footballer to appear in poster campaigns for Germany was Geoff Hurst.
