Big football exhibit
25 May 2007
Football fans will be keen to head to Brussels after an exhibit of the game in Europe opened.
Only A Game? has been arranged to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome and looks at football's evolution alongside the development of the European Union.
European football's governing body Uefa has organised the exhibit in conjunction with the Brussels Tourist Board and French international footballer Lilian Thuram.
The exhibit, which is being held at the Musees Royaux d'Art et d'Histoire, features artefacts the Koln Olympic Museum, the Preston Football Museum, the National Museum of French Sports and Uefa.
Some of the most prized items include a 1971 shirt belonging to George Best, the 1998 World Cup final ball, a shirt belonging to Peter Schmeichel, one belonging to Zinedine Zidane and a flag from the 1930s.
'Through its broad approach, the exhibition should be a chance for the whole family to experience the emotions of football - even if they are not fans,' said designer Olivier Guilbaud.
'We want to offer an entertaining experience for the whole family and make use of new technologies that allow people to take part in the exhibition, touch objects and play with screens.'
Visitors will be able to walk into a giant table football match and watch presentations on some of European football's greatest players.
Only A Game? runs until 26 August.
