Bees delay flight
29 May 2007

A flight between Bournemouth, England, and Faro in Portugal was delayed due to a large swarm of bees.

The Boeing 737 was forced to turn back after the pilot experienced an engine surge and landed the aircraft as a precaution, reports the Associated Press.

When engineers took a look at the engine they found 'a large number of bees smeared inside the engine'.

It is being reported that a large swarm of bees were spotted off the coast of Bournemouth before the flight set off.

Some witnesses claim that as many as 20,000 bees were in the group and it appears that this is what the plane flew through.

The 200 passengers onboard the flight did not experience any discomfort during the incident but were held up for 11 hours as the craft was examined and a new one found to continue their journey.
